Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

As we continue our journey of discovery in the Greenworks 24V power tool lineup, we come to the trusty angle grinder. Today, we’re turning our attention to the first-generation Greenworks 24V cordless angle grinder and breaking down some of the key features to see what makes this grinder worth considering.

Right out of the gate, this angle grinder puts up some impressive numbers. According to Greenworks, this single-speed angle grinder boasts a top-end speed of 10,500 RPM from its brushless motor. That kind of speed puts it in the company of some of the fastest angle grinders we’ve tested in the 4 1/2-inch class.

One thing you may notice is a lack of vibration-dampening zones like we see on higher-priced models. With that said, it’s definitely not a deal breaker, and certainly not a surprise considering the high-value price point Greenworks is targeting.

There are a few different options when it comes to trigger styles on angle grinders. Choosing the best one often depends on your primary tasks and personal preference. This model features a slide switch on top of the tool that locks on and makes it easier to shift your grip to different positions.

Overall, I really like the ergonomics of this angle grinder, though it doesn’t stray from the general physical shape of other popular models. The big difference is a slimmer handle section that makes it much easier for folks with small and medium-sized hands. It also features a lightly textured rubber overmold that is very comfortable in my hands and it helps absorb some of the vibration grinding and cutting produce.

It’s slightly on the heavy side with the recommended 4.0Ah battery, hitting our scale at 5.6 pounds. As for size, it measures 16.5 inches from tip to tail including the battery.

Greenworks goes with a no-nonsense approach to wheel changes. Simply press down on the spindle lock and rotate the wheel by hand until it locks in place then use the included spanner wrench to loosen the flange nut.

Check out these methods to change the wheel without reaching for the wrench!

This angle grinder is available as a bare tool for $79.99 and $109.99 as a kit. Both options come with a grinding wheel, a side handle, and a spanner wrench. The only difference is the kit includes a single 4.0Ah battery and charger. Greenworks warranties both the battery and tool for 3 years.

Greenworks put together a solid cordless angle grinder that’s suitable for almost anything you’ll need around your home or various weekend projects. As good as it is, it’s the value that’s the biggest highlight. When you look at brushless angle grinders from Ryobi, Skil, Craftsman, and other DIY/Prosumer brands, Greenworks’ price tag comes in significantly lower.
